The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Sr Performance Development Engineer.
Job Summary
The Senior Performance Development Engineer collaborates with design engineers to ensure that vehicle performance, emissions and economy targets are achieved. This person will direct and/or execute analysis to provide understanding of the impact designs have on performance and noise. This role also leads dyno-based evaluations of powertrains, performing combustion analysis, calibration, and evaluation of mechanical systems that require collection and analysis of high-speed data. The Performance Development engineer also manages final certification of engine performance and communicates program status and direction throughout the life of projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Solves complex problems and provides powertrain structural analysis that conforms to established analytical guidelines, standardized work, and standardized tools.
- Demonstrates in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in analysis techniques and related applications.
- Acts as a resource and Subject Matter Expert to support new and current product teams with analysis results.
- Supports simulation and innovation projects and methods development.
- Ability to apply best practices to create and lead projects that are specifically directed at improving vehicle quality in an effort to meet or exceed the platform quality targets.
- Demonstrates competence in project development and management.

Education Specifications
- This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical Degree. Master’s Degree in Engineering Preferred.
Experience Requirements
Required
• Minimum 5 years of powertrain development engineering experience
• Experience with dyno testing and engine calibration
• Understanding of the fundamentals of engine thermodynamics, calibration for performance, fuel economy and emissions, and general powertrain development
• Experience with data analysis and modeling
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear concise manner to a range of audiences throughout the organization
Preference given to candidates with these additional skills
• Proficiency in developing automation to speed data handling and other aspects of the work
• Experience with powertrain control system development
• Experience with 1-D engine thermodynamic simulation
• Proficient with MATLAB, ATI Vision Scripting, Microsoft VBA, AVL Concerto Scripting, or experience with other tools used for handling large data sets.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
