Job Summary

 

Join our team as an Electrical Systems Staff Design Engineer focused on control systems and components. Be an exciting part of the next generation of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, helping deliver components with critical impact on vehicle performance, fuel economy, and regulatory compliance. This position will own control systems and  component design from concept to evaluation and product launch. 
 

Hybrid Location
Position will be hybrid with time split between a home office and on-site at our Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI.
 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead Control Module component designs through Tier I electrical component partners and approve designs for production. 
  • Capture system requirements and develop corresponding control functional requirements. 
  • Develop component requirements by incorporating vehicle-level requirements, personal expertise, engineering guidelines, product benchmarking, and input from internal stakeholders.  
  • Develop verification plans to ensure features are intuitive and robust at product launch.
  • Partner with cross-functional team and suppliers to meet program and build milestones. 
  • Identify risks and propose mitigations.
  • Perform root cause analysis and issue management for control software.
  • Verify component & system performance, resolving any issues along the way, to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure electrical system meets or exceeds targets.
  • Complete all activity using project management tools and principles to deliver on-time and within budget.

  • This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical Degree.

Experience Requirements

 

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of relevant design engineering experience in a related field.  In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:

  • Understanding of electrical hardware and interfaces within an ECU and between an ECU and the vehicle.
  • Experience with software and calibration development and software development processes.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols including CAN.
  • Fundamental knowledge of engineering calculations and engineering analysis to meet electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements.
  • Use of Quality Engineering methods such as DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans and Test Reports.
  • Experience authoring requirements, developing test-cases, and establishing traceability in a process that supports product development in accordance with a functional safety process such as ISO26262.
  • Experience working with suppliers on supplier-led designs.
  • Ability to work and communicate with diverse global teams both internally and externally.
  • Experience diagnosing and correcting problems related to hardware/software integration.
  • Experience with CAN tools, particularly Vector tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Experience with problem solving methods and tools such as Six Sigma
