Job Summary
In this position, you will work with an experienced cross-functional engineering team and have design and delivery ownership for electrical and mechanical content of our hand control & heated grip module solutions from concept through launch. You will utilize the "Great Harley-Davidson Engineering" design framework, implement M9 development methodology, and design for quality processes.
Specific Deliverables Include:
- Deliver robust, optimized designs for vehicle functions and systems while adhering to project targets, performance objectives, high quality, and cost minimization.
- Author requirements for vehicle functions and system architecture with focus on ISO26262 compliance. Generate plans for development and feature maturity. Partner with a cross-functional team and suppliers to meet program and build milestones. Identify risks and propose mitigations.
- Verify component & system performance to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure EE system meets or exceeds targets
- Resolve technical issues by applying problem solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional engineering & test support as needed
- Perform Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&Rs), analyze test results and bring closure to test findings. Support vehicle-level system integration activities.
- Support pre-production and launch build events and participate in product test & evaluations
Education Requirements
- This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical degree.
Experience Requirements
Required
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of relevant design experience in related field. In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:
- Experience designing and developing systems/components utilizing multiple manufacturing processes from concept to production with consideration to:
- Focus on delivering per the requests of cross-fucntional teams (such as product managers, styling, etc).
- Developing test plans per automotive test standards and interpreting test results.
- Strong interest in motorcycle engineering and design.
- Knowledge of whole-vehicle systems with detailed electrical system/component choice, software design, electrical design & integration experience. Ability to work beyond electrical engineering and apply basic electro-mechanical engineering skills/experience.
- Creative approach to solving problems and able to own issue resolution from data collection, data analysis, root cause identification, solution set generation, and selection of optimal solution.
- Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization.
- Success using project management tools and principles to deliver on-time and within budget.
- Ability to work with diverse global teams both internally and externally (suppliers).
Preferred:
- Direct motorcycle or vehicle engineering experience (e.g. automotive, power sports, construction, agriculture, aerospace, marine).
- Electrical System design/development experience from concept through production launch.
- Experience authoring requirements, developing test-cases, and establishing traceability in a process that supports product development in accordance with a functional safety process, ISO26262 preferred.
- Experience with Quality Engineering deliverables, including DFMEAs and Design Validation Plans and Test Reports.
- Previous experience engaging with external suppliers and managing deliverables
- Experience with the following work product tools: Helix ALM, JIRA, xFMEA
- Familiarity with root cause analysis process and techniques (i.e. fishbone/cause map/8D analysis, corrective action ideation, implementation verification, etc).
- Experience with Vector CAN software tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, etc) & vehicle network interfacing hardware (Vector CAN boxes/dongles, PEAK tools, etc)
- Lab test equipment (DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc).
