This role is hybrid, supporting the Chicago, IL market (local candidates preferred). Employees in hybrid roles are expected to have a dedicated, quiet, and distraction-free work space and an internet connection that’s sufficient for completing their job when working outside of the office.

 

Job Summary

This role is responsible for performing general accounting, financial reporting, and month-end closing processes for Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS). This position will also participate in functional and Company-wide projects, systems maintenance, training, and testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads in the completion of the monthly accounting close for areas of responsibility including the preparation of monthly management reporting package schedules and detailed analyses as necessary to assist in the month-end review process, and monthly financial reporting and analyses.
  • Prepares the quarterly, and year-end financial statements, including footnote disclosure for areas of responsibility for HDFS and subsidiaries and the Financial Services components of the HDI 10-Q and 10-K, as required by US GAAP and other regulatory bodies.
  • Performs, establishes and drives implementation of best practices for creating monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, procedures, and other related tasks.
  • Proactively brings identified issues and proposed solutions to the attention of management.
  • Makes judgment, when called upon, regarding accounting treatment of individual items. Errors in judgment could cause mistreatment of individual items resulting in overstatement or understatement of income or expense.
  • Establishes relationships with other teams and acts as contact for internal/external auditors for areas of responsibility.
  • Provides training and support to accounting staff and leads testing of system upgrades and patches where appropriate.
  • Supports financial analysts as needed in preparation and analysis of annual budget and periodic forecasts related to accounts in scope of responsibility.
  • Assists the accounting team with maintaining compliance with US GAAP and other regulatory agency technical guidance. This may include research-related projects, various ad-hoc financial reporting requests and other special projects.

Experience Requirements

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of public accounting experience or 4 years of relevant experience.
  • High level of professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with a strong attention to detail and limited supervision
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to take the initiative, multi-task, and achieve results
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills. Ability to leverage an understanding of business and system processes to develop accurate financial information and solutions

Preferred

  • CPA certification
  • General ledger
  • Financial reporting
  • SAP (accounting software)
  • Financial services and reinsurance accounting experience

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
