Job Summary

 

We are currently looking for a Senior Technical Specialist, for the Vehicle Measurements Group (VMG). This position reports to the VMG Lab Manager at the Arizona Proving Ground (APG), Yucca, AZ and is an integral part of the Product Development team at Harley-Davidson. The person filling this role will be responsible for setting up and enabling a wide variety of vehicle measurements and data acquisition in support of product and systems engineering. The variety of tests will include work in areas such as advanced innovation, long term technology development, quality initiatives and various regulatory testing that enables Harley-Davidson Motor Company sales world-wide.
 

Job Responsibilities

 

This Engineering position will be held accountable for delivering the following:

  • Installation and setup of instrumentation and data acquisition components in support of executing technically meaningful tests on motorcycles
  • Refine and develop new techniques and methods of instrumentation to improve and reduce product development time
  • Collaborate with engineers, mechanics and riders, as needed to ensure the best results for the product
  • Deliver test and lab goals while demonstrating Fairness and Honesty in all interactions with a Positive attitude and while finding Creative solutions in their work.

High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Experience Requirements

 

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a test and/or engineering environment.  In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

 

Data Acquisition Systems and Techniques

  • Demonstrate understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful setup/execution of test projects.
  • Understanding of both analog and digital data acquisition systems and methods
  • Experience with the following types of data acquisition systems desired (HBM eDaq/eDaq-lite, IMC DataWorks, Campbell-Scientific, etc)
  • Skilled with soldering techniques, hard wiring, and cable management
  • Clear understanding of reference coordinates and relationship to vehicle testing

 

Electrical and Electronic knowledge

  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits and electronic theory and application
  • Understanding of Wheatstone Bridge behaviors and the application to strain gages
  • Knowledge of ground theory and potential impacts to instrumentation/measurement results
  • Understanding of noise generation/mitigation (sources, filters, etc)
  • Understanding of filter uses and effects with respect to electrical measurements

 

Test Instrumentation

  • Has independently and successfully applied instrumentation tools and techniques to projects.  Has provided high quality test data through detailed understanding of transducer designs, calibration, limitations, and their appropriate usage
  • Understands thermocouple function, use, and applications
  • Functional knowledge of a variety of transducers such as:
    • Pressure transducers
    • Accelerometers (various types)
    • Force transducers
    • Position/velocity transducers
    • Strain gages
    • Optical/Magnetic triggers/sensors
    • GPS based position/velocity/acceleration sensors
  • Basic mechanical skills with hand tools to assemble/disassemble data acquisition systems and install/remove them from test vehicles

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
