Associate Level - internships, 0-1 years experience

Intermediate Level - 3 years experience

Senior/Professional - 5 years experience

Job Summary

This position is responsible for planning, monitoring, and accomplishing the goals for new model projects from a supply management perspective. Supports product development as it relates to purchasing activity for systems and components ranging from supplier selection, cost modeling and project management. This position supports component development activity related to new product launches, builds, and purchasing processes. Ability to analyze and manage components through process and product verification, validation and product launch. Responsible for multiple component cost, quality and timing requirements per business case commitments. Routinely and effectively communicates with H-D engineering, plant locations and other materials stakeholders regarding the status of new model projects from a supply management perspective. Tracks and ensures timely conclusion of all issues raised during the development process of projects they are leading. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in Product Development Purchasing.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and experience in working with suppliers while engaging product development processes.
  • Manages parts/components through the product development process.
  • Impacts the quality of their support and work through assessing supplier related risk and then proactively mitigating and managing said risk. Escalates when necessary.
  • Resolves complex problems related to purchased components and supplier management issues. Works independently, with only a moderate level of guidance.
  • Solves complex problems related to supplier issues using analytical thought, exercising judgment and identifying innovative solutions. May lead functional teams, special projects and the continuous improvement of purchasing processes.
  • High level of engagement and communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders like Engineering and Supply Chain.
  • Effectively communicates difficult information such as schedules, budgets, and technical needs and negotiates with suppliers and internal stakeholders to impact positive outcomes.

Required

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret product development purchasing challenges and recommend best practices to improve metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group and/or team and provide guidance to other employees.
  • Proven track record of knowledge in operations techniques including statistical process control (SPC), justin-time (JIT) manufacturing, Operational Excellence (Op Ex), cost management tools, benchmarking, and other quality and continuous improvement tools. Deep expertise in production or procurement of components and subsystems and knowledge in concurrent product and process development techniques and supply chain management and ability to apply to new product launches.
  • Travel required up to 25%.

Preferred

  • Experience in automotive or motorcycle manufacturing environment
