Job Summary
The Powertrain Performance Engineer – Intake & Exhaust will lead the development of intake and exhaust systems for Harley-Davidson motorcycles as part of the Performance Development Group, owning components from concept through production launch. This role is critical to delivering the signature Harley-Davidson sound while ensuring compliance with global noise and emissions regulations. As a key technical resource, this individual will collaborate across engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Styling, and Purchasing, as well as System and Platform teams, to deliver solutions that meet performance, quality, cost, weight, and timing targets.
Job Responsibilities
- Own the design and release of intake and exhaust components from concept through production, delivering systems that define the Harley-Davidson rider experience and signature sound
- Collaborate cross-functionally and with suppliers to meet performance, quality, cost, weight, timing, and global regulatory requirements
- Drive the balance of sound, performance, durability, and emissions compliance through design, validation (DFMEA/DVP&R), CAD, analysis, prototypes, and testing
- Identify and implement new technologies into product lifecycle plans
- Demonstrate strong ownership, attention to detail, and accountability while effectively communicating, influencing decisions, and solving complex engineering challenges
Education Requirements
Education Specifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field required
- Masters of Science degree (MS) in a technical field preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Typically requires 5 years of related engineering experience
- Experience in leading or contributing to DFMEA and DVP&R activities
- Proficiency in CAD (Creo / Pro-E preferred)
- Understanding of exhaust system design, acoustics, and emissions components (mufflers, headers, catalysts)
- Working knowledge of GD&T and datum structure development
- Experience working in cross-functional product development environments
The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
