The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a  Packaging Engineer.

Job Summary

This position is primarily focused on the development of new returnable and expendable packaging to support the launch of new Harley-Davidson products in our manufacturing plants.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading or supporting the development of package designs that facilitate part flow through the supply chain.  Parts include single components, assemblies, and full vehicles.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, gather input, and set direction for packaging design requirements used for in-bound parts
  • Develop and manage packaging budgets for new vehicle projects
  • Develop and manage project plans to ensure timely delivery of packaging to meet new vehicle project requirements
  • Collaborate with part suppliers in the development and review of expendable packaging for in-bound parts.
  • Leads the design & development of returnable packaging for in-bound parts.
  • Lead or support design and development of packaging systems used for Inter-plant shipments
  • Lead or support outbound vehicle technical packaging and transportation solutions
  • Manage packaging specifications, documents, and related data from concept through release for production
  • Provide subject matter expertise through effective written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Requirements

Required

  • Typically requires three years of Packaging, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a group and/or team and provide guidance to new team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess packaging designs and shipping environments in the development of testing and validation plans.
  • Experience in designing packaging based on transportation, density maximization, protection, and cost.
  • Travel required up to 10%.

 

Preferred

  • Three years of industrial Packaging Engineering experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing, product development, or distribution.
  • Motorcycle industry and product familiarity.
