The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Packaging Engineer.
Job Summary
This position will provide help to manufacturing plant stakeholders and part suppliers to improve warehouse planning, material handling, industrial flow, ergonomics, and packaging design. Will participate in problem solving and continuous improvement projects regarding packaging design, material flow, or related logistics improvements. Collaborate with packaging material suppliers in the design and delivery of inbound part packaging, part sequencing, and vehicle delivery processes.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates working knowledge and experience in Packaging with the ability to drive results with a moderate level of guidance and direction.
- Impacts product launch methodologies regarding Packaging and the work of others on their team.
- Solves part quality issues related to Packaging problems by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment with a moderate level of guidance and direction.
- Lead packaging qualification activities by generating packaging protocols, overseeing test execution and analyzing test data.
- Lead the improvement and standardization of packaging on new and existing products with focus on performance and cost effectiveness.
- Provides informal guidance to new Packaging Engineer team members and impacts the work of others within the group.
- Create detailed packaging specifications, including CAD models, and documentation for both returnable and expendable packaging.
- Collaborate with suppliers, logistics, and manufacturing to ensure packaging supports ergonomic handling, line-side presentation, and process efficiency.
- Partner with purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
- Participate in cross-functional design reviews with Engineering, Purchasing, Production Control, and Quality to ensure packaging readiness for new model launches.
- Able to identify and execute continuous improvement and cost savings opportunities related to packaging.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of packaging systems to support life cycle planning, in-plant and sequencing requirements.
- Coordinates operations with RCM to ensure proper management of returnable packaging assets.
- Coordinates returnable asset audits to ensure containers fleets are at healthy levels.
- Effectively communicate complex information involving Packaging issues to internal and external stakeholders.

High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience Requirements
Required
- Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Packaging and key business drivers such as negotiating, data analysis, and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a group and/or team and provide guidance to new team members.
- Proven track record of reviewing designs and determining appropriate testing to ensure implementation of robust solutions.
- Experience in designing packaging based on transportation, density maximization, protection, and cost.
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, product development, or distribution.
- Motorcycle riding experience and knowledge in the area of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
