The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Design Engineer.
Job Summary
Join our team as a Design Engineer and help support the Value Engineering team within Current Product Engineering at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. This role is instrumental in leading the delivery of projects that follow principles of Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA/VE). This role works with other high-performing teams and an array of internal and external stakeholders to deliver VA/VE project that meet program time, quality, and cost targets. In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team working with supply management team members and other engineers focused on delivering cost reduction designs across the entire vehicle portfolio. The design engineer will use engineering tools such as CAD models and drawings, as well as predictive analysis and conventional engineering tools and calculations, to demonstrate and communicate robustness of designs. The engineer will work closely with project leads to support development of detailed project plans, design options, performance of DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, analysis of test results and bring closure to test findings.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, integrate, and deliver robust component/system designs from concept to production that optimize stakeholder needs
- Demonstrates knowledge of engineering calculations, analysis and tools
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) functions
- Verify system performance to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure systems meet or exceed targets
- Develop designs through technical development and integration with domestic and international suppliers
- Own detailed project plans for requirement setting, part development and procurement, test planning and testing
- Resolve technical issues by applying problem-solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional engineering & test support as needed
- Identifies ways to continuously improve processes and responsibilities in their job
- Collaborate up, down and across the organization to obtain results by communicating openly and actively listening

Education Specifications
- This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Experience Requirements
Required
- Typically requires at least 3 years of relevant design experience
- A strong interest and understanding of key tools and processes leveraged in analysis, design, test and manufacturing
Preferred
- Motorcycle or automotive/vehicle experience
- Experience with Value Engineering
- Experience with Component and/or System Design – concept through production
