Our plant in Tomahawk, WI manufactures, finishes and ships composite and plastic parts to our final assembly plants. Join us as a Materials Handling Automation Staff Engineer (On-site).

Job Summary

The Materials Staff Engineer (MSE) is responsible for managing and executing projects that satisfy the growing automated material movement needs of Harley-Davidson’s Tomahawk manufacturing facilities.  The MTL will lead the discovery, development and implementation of automated material movement within our manufacturing facilities that meet or exceed safety, quality, delivery, cost, and timing metrics.  This role is instrumental in the development of automated material movement within manufacturing.  The MLT will also be responsible for implementing an electronic inventory management system as well as maintaining the accuracy of the inventory.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop an automated material movement strategy within our manufacturing facilities that satisfies the needs of the organization
  • Manages teams of cross-functional stakeholders to deliver automated material movement projects within all established safety, quality, delivery, cost and timing targets
  • Establishes the automated material movement foundation and delivers automated material movement solutions that can be replicated across our global H-D manufacturing facilities
  • Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) for automated material movement 
  • Responsible for identification and benchmarking of automated material movement innovations that reduce costs and drive efficiencies within global manufacturing operations
  • Acts as Product Owner for automated material movement within our manufacturing locations that prioritizes and oversees project delivery with key stakeholders
  • Responsible for implementing an electronic inventory management system and maintaining inventory accuracy 
  • Mechatronics capabilities to help deliver automated and digital solutions within manufacturing 

Education Specifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.

Experience Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience with implementing automated materials movement solutions, materials management in high volume environments, wired/wireless data communication protocols, etc.
  • Expert skills and substantial experience leading implementation automated material delivery solutions within manufacturing processes and environments
  • In-depth knowledge of automated material movement technologies available within industry, their applications, how to integrate them, and how to leverage them to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Proven track record of creative problem solving that fosters technological solutions focused on system advancements driving continued system evolvement
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing processes including materials management, machining, fabrication, paint, injection molding, and assembly
  • Demonstrated ability to execute project management methodology to deliver projects within safety, quality, cost, delivery and timing targets

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
