Job Summary

Our Engineering team at the Livewire Labs facility located in Mountain View, CA has an opening for a Functional Safety Engineer. This open position requires a relentless drive to success while working in an efficient, dynamic and agile systems focused engineering environment. 


This engineer will be responsible for overall Functional Safety ownership of the Harley-Davidson hardware and software components in the EV Powertrain. Those components are High Voltage Battery, Battery Monitoring System, Inverter, On-board Charger and the Vehicle Control Unit.  

Job Responsibilities

•    Provide industry knowledge of practical application of the standards and processes. 
•    Execute HW DFMEA 
•    Execute SW DFMEA 
•    Fill-in a role as a Functional Safety Engineer to support the development teams daily. 
•    Work very close with the development teams to address the safety- related requirements. 
•    Prepares the safety plan (Work Breakdown Structure, Estimations, Roles & Responsibilities). 
•    Aid in the development of work products. 
•    Conduct focused workshops around safety topics. 
•    Assists and coach teams in the development of safety work products. 
•    Prepare documentation which are required during the Concept Level, System Design, Hardware & Software Design. 
•    Organize and participates in internal and external meetings. 
•    Serve as a review stakeholder for certain Functional Safety work products.  
•    Support or prepares the safety analysis tasks (ex. Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment, Safety Analysis on Concept, System, Hardware and Software). 
•    Provide verbal and written expert advice to the project team members as requested during the project timeline to support the development of proper functional safety work products. 
•    Play an active role in the management of functional safety at the product level including FuSa team leadership, meeting participation, conducting periodic Functional Safety team meetings, supporting stakeholder requests, participating in stakeholder meetings, managing status reporting for Functional Safety activities, and providing strategic advice regarding Functional Safety. 
•    Support the usage of appropriate tools for an effective and agile product development. 
 

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Required

Education Specifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical, Mechatronics or related technical degree. Masters in related field is preferred. Formal Functional Safety training.

Experience Requirements

•    Eight years of total experience.
•    Minimum of 5 years of experience with safety critical applications.  
•    Experience with DFMEA (HW, SW), PFMEA and related quality assurance processes. 
•    Experience in applying ISO26262 into product development. 
•    Knowledge of ASPICE. 
•    Knowledge of end-to-end software process. 
•    Knowledge of hardware designs.
