Our Engineering team at the Livewire Labs facility located in Mountain View, CA has an opening for a Manager Engineering Power Electronics. This open position requires a relentless drive to success while working in an efficient, dynamic and agile systems focused engineering environment.

This manager will be responsible for overall Power electronics ownership of the Harley-Davidson hardware components in the EV Powertrain. Those components are Inverter, On-board Charger and DCDC Converter. 


This is what you'll do:  
•    Lead the development of best in class EV power electronics that optimize quality, performance, packaging volume, weight, thermal management, cost and regulatory compliance.
•    Define technology development plan that supports current and future benchmarks.
•    Develop scalable power electronics architecture that can be applied across a range of low-voltage and high-voltage electric vehicles for a global market.
•    Utilize individual and group design, drawing, specification and architecture reviews to demonstrate and drive the application of robust technical solutions using the Agile in Automotive Methodology.
•    Mentor and coach engineers to grow team capabilities and ensure application of best practices.
•    Conduct and oversee power electronics laboratory testing and development including leading the technicians of the lab.
•    Plan and lead execution of Design Verification (DV).
•    Plan and lead execution of Product Validation (PV). 
•    Plan and lead execution of HW DFMEA.
•    Plan and lead execution of FMEDA.
•    Support component manufacturing including testing strategy.
•    Advise on overall conformance to regulatory requirements and address deficiencies.
•    Lead issue tracking process (8D, 5-why) and provide expert feedback on resolution status.
•    Support the usage of appropriate tools (JIRA, Helix, Sharepoint, Plecs) for an effective and agile product development.

Education Required
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience Required 

•    Minimum ten years’ experience in power electronics products; DC/DC converters, Battery Chargers, Inverters, EMI filters, and power distribution. 
•    Hands on experience in power electronics hardware development: design, debugging and validation. 
•    Experience in leading teams.

Experience in the following is also preferred:
•    Deep understanding of EV component’s underlying physics, functions and how they can be optimized to drive customer-valued differentiation and business value.
•    Significant experience in IGBT and MOSFET technology selection including respective gate drive circuits.
•    Experience in analog, digital and mix signal hardware design including layout.
•    Demonstrated understanding of power semiconductor switching waveforms, loss modeling and thermal management.
•    Knowledge of control theory and stability.
•    Control expertise and digital implementation for power converters controls.
•    Demonstrated understanding of magnetic design: inductor, transformer, EMI filter and core & copper loss analysis.
•    Experience working with 48V and >300V voltage levels and component selections.
•    Experience in PCB layout for power electronics (Altium preferred): minimal stray inductance, EMC/EMI optimization.
•    Significant Power Electronics laboratory and/or Electric Motor dyno experience.
•    Knowledge of data acquisition tools - LabView, CANalyzer, etc.
•    Demonstrated understanding of EV development & software integration process.
•    Understanding of development requirements for OEM production programs (DVPR).
•    Experience with Design for Manufacturing, Design for Reliability, DFMEA, FMEDA and fault trees.
•    Experience in root cause analysis and failure prevention (8D, 5-why).
•    Knowledge of UL, ISO/ECE, and/or GBT requirements including EMC.
•    Experience in applying ISO26262 into product development.
