The Manager EV Powertrain Firmware & Architecture is responsible for leading the timing, architectural development, work breakdown structure and requirements documentation for all EV Powertrain ECUs in support of all major subsystems (e.g. HV Battery, Traction Inverter, Onboard Charger, DC-DC converter, etc.) 


The job requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage overall EV Powertrain firmware development team in support of multiple production programs.
  • Manage EV Powertrain firmware planning and execution including human resources, budget, and timing.
  • Lead firmware development of EV powertrain function for supervisory controls, high voltage battery, traction motor inverter, onboard charger, and DC-DC converter to ensure compliance to Vehicle, System, and Component Requirements (performance, EV range, EMI/EMC, high voltage safety, thermal, quality & reliability).
  • Develop safety concept and plan its implementation and test.
  • Develop and coordinate hardware & software development within framework of Functional Rollout plan.
  • Develop and synchronize the phased calibration and development plan for the subsystem with program milestones and in conjunction with the vehicle level software release schedule.
  • Lead the effort on capturing control systems requirements for: core electric vehicle control functions, functional safety monitors, diagnostics control interfaces, etc. 
  • Lead software calibration development planning to meet H-D performance targets.
  • Lead control system peer design reviews.
  • Lead overall EV firmware development team to meet Functional Rollout plan and overall program timing objectives from architecture definition to production launch.
  • Develop, propose and negotiate contingency plans in order to address and mitigate risk. 
  • Lead the Problem Resolution and tracking process (JIRA) and provide feedback on status to tracked problems. 
  • Work in conjunction with purchasing and supplier development to ensure that qualified suppliers are selected for future programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Software Engineering.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in management role, fluent in team development, budget planning and project timing control.
  • Successfully launched at least one mass production project.
  • 10 years or more of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on engineering experience with automotive OEM or tier 1.
  • Capable of working with all levels of management, including executive management.
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated hands on experience with control system architectures and control systems implementation. 
  • Experienced in control systems requirements specification.
  • Experienced in structured analysis & design in software development.
  • Basic knowledge of software DFMEA experience including fault tree analysis, hazard analysis
  • Vehicle development & system integration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degree with specialization in embedded control system design, feedback control, etc.
  • Experience in high voltage electrical systems (such as inverter, converter, charger, or battery) used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles is desirable.
  • EV control systems algorithm & software development with a major OEM on production intent development programs.
  • EV system knowledge including torque arbitration, inverter and motor controls, and battery management system. 
  • Control system calibration tool experience (Etas INCA, Vector CANoe, ATI Vision, etc.)
  • CAN communication tools experience (Vector CANalyzer, Kvaser,etc.)
  • Experience implementing Functional Safety ISO26262
  • Experience with Diagnostics verification and compliance
  • Experience in EV development & system integration
