Job Summary

The Retail Director of the Harley-Davidson Museum and Milwaukee Experiences is responsible for all retail operations at the Harley-Davidson Museum (Harley-Davidson Shop and the Harley-Davidson Factory Outlet), at the Company’s Employee Stores at the Company’s Factory Experience Centers in Menomonee Falls, WI and in York, PA, and other retail activations as part of the Milwaukee experiences and Harley-Davidson Homecoming celebrations.


Specifically, the Retail Director is responsible for all assortment planning, merchandising, inventory planning and management, pricing and markdown strategies, sales forecasting and delivery in the channels noted above.  This position will consistently monitor retail performance in these channels and pivot in an agile manner to consistently deliver the broader Museum and Milwaukee experience retail plans.


This position will require strong leadership partnerships with key stakeholders and functions across Harley-Davidson Motor Company; specifically, this position will require strong operational relationships with the Apparel & Licensing (A&L), Commercial, Digital, and Commercial functions.  This position will sit on the A&L and eCommerce leadership teams in a “dotted line” capacity.


As a member of the A&L Review Board, this position will have critical input into the product development plans within the A&L organization, and will work to convey the unique needs of the Museum consumer and broader Museum narrative in all product plans.  This position will partner with the A&L product teams to ensure Museum product development is on-time and meets all quality standards.


This position will also be responsible for the Museum eCommerce P&L alongside the P&Ls for the brick-and-mortar Museum retail spaces.  This position will be responsible for driving revenue and allocating marketing spend to eCommerce in accordance with the Museum’s strategic goals.  This position will propose budgets according to Museum strategies and needs and share revenue targets with the eCommerce organization within the Commercial function.  This position will partner closely with the eCommerce team within Commercial to ensure Museum products on eCommerce are appropriately merchandised, marketed, and priced.
 

Job Responsibilities

The Retail Director will report to the General Manager of the H-D Museum and Milwaukee Experiences with core responsibilities including:
Retail Operations

  • Provide leadership, focus and direction; work to support and drive all aspects of the Museum and Factory Experience omni-channel retail experiences to the “next level”.
  • Relentless customer focus to deliver true excellence in a 360-degree retail manner.
  • Oversee all day-to-day retail activities and deliver in-store retail excellence at the Museum and at Factory store locations – including the implementation of best practices across retail environment, merchandising, inventory management, forecasting, planning, target setting, staffing, pricing and promotional initiatives.
  • Consistent monitor retail KPIs including store traffic, inventory turns, days on hand, sales per square foot, average transaction prices and consistent seek to pivot to drive targeted performance.
  • Partner with the Commercial eCommerce team to deliver an omni-channel Museum retail experience which drives a consistent and frictionless retail experience across digital and physical environments.
  • Own and deliver annual P&L plans across both brick and mortar locations and eCommerce; consistently review performance against plan at SKU, category and overall levels.  Create mitigation plans and actions to ensure performance delivers original plans.
  • Partner with the A&L product team to develop and deliver a product plan which meet the unique needs of the Museum and Factory Tour consumer and extends Museum exhibits, stories and brand legacy.
  • Partner with the Harley-Davidson Foundation management team to ensure and retail operations at the Harley-Davidson Parks support and drive forward the mission of the Harley-Davidson Foundation.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all Museum, Factory Experience, and Harley-Davidson Parks retail teams.
  • Consistently motivate and energize teams to drive low levels of regrettable turnover in a tight and competitive labor market.
  • Vigorously represent the Museum, Factory Tour, and H-D Parks consumer in all Company Review Boards, notably in Product Development, Commercial, and Digital forums.
  • Have a strong understanding of Diversity Equity and Inclusion and the role Harley-Davidson Parks play in ensuring equity in the Near West Side alongside the Harley-Davidson Foundation.
  • Ensure strong levels of staff development and training to deliver an exceptional customer experience across all offerings.

  • This role requires a Bachelors’ Degree in business management or related discipline.

Experience Requirements

This role typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with at least 5 years of management experience and a minimum of eight years of retail operations experience, and/or a portfolio of experiences, skills, and capabilities that collectively demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated capabilities and experiences leading and executing retail businesses and operations, ideally in a highly experiential environment.
  • Deep experience in consumer brands.
  • Strong influence and collaboration skills and the ability to bring together multiple stakeholder groups effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and style and demonstrated knowledge of developing and implementing and delivering a retail plans within allocated budgets.
  • A proven track record of building and cultivating personal and professional relationships, managing multiple stakeholders across organizations to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong drive, initiative and commitment, with demonstrated success in setting and achieving retail and experience goals. 
  • Subject-matter expertise coupled with ability to collaborate up, down and across organizations, including with executive leadership, individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and community leaders, connecting across functions and levels.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
