Our Powertrain Operations facility, located on Pilgrim Road in Menomonee Falls, WI, is where the “jewel” of the motorcycle comes to life. Pilgrim Road employees produce engines and transmissions for the final assembly plant in York, Pennsylvania, as well as transmissions, and replacement parts for sale through Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories business. Job Summary
This position is a Resident Engineering position requiring expertise in powertrain components, design, and related manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate is passionate about engines and is customer-focused focused, ensuring that the business needs are being met and upholding our Quality vision of creating “Customers for Life”.
This position reports to Global Product Quality at the Product Development Center but resides at our Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations in Menomonee Falls. This position will act as a technical expert and liaison on H-D engine design and function, mentor other parts of the organization, and be considered a vital partner to the quality and manufacturing teams at PTO.
Job Responsibilities
This is what you’ll do:
- Support the day-to-day operations to obtain the production metrics for quality and production rate.
- Provide leadership and guidance on potential product non-conformances related to drawing specifications and product standards.
- Collaborate with our global manufacturing plant engineering teams in Brazil and Thailand to help troubleshoot and resolve issues abroad.
- Help root cause and troubleshoot issues dealing with paint, plating, machining, and assembly as well as supplier related issues with castings, forgings, moldings, and stampings.
- Provide Engineering guidance and resources to support Powertrain Operations and Product Development, as it relates to improving quality and risk mitigation through Engineering Running Changes and Product Deviations.
- Support Current Products Cost Opportunity team, PIER, and New Model Launch teams to implement Running Changes by engaging all affected plant stakeholders through the Running Change Board process.
- Communicate project status, issues, metrics, and recommended plans to cross-functional and executive teams.
- Lead design and development activities for quality and cost improvement projects.
- Capture technical knowledge obtained in problem-solving or quality improvement efforts within Harley-Davidson’s Product Development processes.
- Follow applicable escalation help chains to enable success
Education Requirements
Education Specifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering (Automotive, Mechanical, Industrial, Science) or related field preferred
Experience Requirements
Required
- 3 years experience in engineering or manufacturing with a preference with experience in engines or automotive.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Engineering Change Management
- Product Deviation Notices
- PPAP / IPPAP processes
- APQP documentation, including PFMEAs, DFMEAs, and Control Plans
- Strong Knowledge of GD&T and reading engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with CAD programs to interrogate models and assemblies (i.e. Creo Parametric or CreoView).
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to influence across the organization.
- History of sound Engineering with justification for changes.
- Champion or participate in Corrective Action Requests (CARs) identified by the Plant or the Quality Planning and Performance Team.
- Knowledge of key systems and processes within Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Product Development and Service.
- Knowledgeable in the use of statistical and data manipulation techniques.
- Proficient computer skills: Excel, other Microsoft Office products, and/or statistical analysis software.
- Problem-solving using tools and techniques such as Six Sigma or Red X.
- Ability to create detailed action plans and balance multiple priorities.
- Travel 10% or less annually
