Our Arizona Proving Ground (APG) location is home to all product testing. Test miles are supported by Test Riders, Mechanics, Engineers, Coordinators, Technical Specialists and Administrative personnel. APG provides motorcycle testing services related to motorcycle development, performance, validation and certification.

Job Summary


We are currently looking for a Test Engineer with strong knowledge and background in Electrical Systems for the Durability Group. This position reports to the Durability Lab Lead at the Arizona Proving Ground (APG), Yucca, AZ and is an integral part of the Product Development team at Harley-Davidson.

Job Responsibilities


  • Perform Preliminary Root Cause Investigation of Electrical Hardware and Software on Durability tests of motorcycles, utilizing CAN data acquisition equipment and data analysis methods
  • Responsible for execution of special vehicle testing
  • Compile, analyze, and report test results to engineering partners and stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with engineers, technical specialists, mechanics, and riders to complete work
  • Deliver test and lab goals while demonstrating Fairness, Honesty, a Positive attitude and find Creative solutions in the work

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other related technical Degree or PE license

Experience Requirements




  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of related experience, in test and/or engineering environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a group and/or team and provide guidance to new team members such as engineers, technical specialists, mechanics, and riders
  • Demonstrate understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful execution of testing projects. Can develop basic testing strategies for motorcycle systems and/or components as needed. Track record of consistently delivering quality decision-ready data that meets customer expectations
  • Has independently and successfully applied instrumentation tools and techniques during project execution
    • Has provided high-quality test data through a detailed understanding of data recorder operating systems, recorded data management and analysis methods, software scripts, limitations, and their appropriate usage
  • Has developed tools to efficiently reduce & summarize test data in charts, plots, and diagrams for purposes of design analysis. Has analyzed test data in both time and frequency domain.
    • Regularly provides error bounds, statistical analysis, and/or annotation to test results
  • Has a basic understanding of fatigue concepts from undergraduate college courses or seminars
    • Can perform simple fatigue calculations based on stress-life or strain-life material curves and simple cyclic loading
  • Has a demonstrated practical and conceptual understanding of the overall functioning systems in a motorcycle (Battery Electric and/or Internal Combustion variants) through acquired experience as a rider, through formal training methods
  • Has demonstrable practical experience in understanding, creating, and troubleshooting software scripts to monitor automotive electrical systems (including CAN protocols)

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
