Job Summary

Harley-Davidson is committed to staying true to our heritage of V-Twin powertrains in new and exciting ways. We are looking for a Sr. Design Engineer (P&A Powertrain) to help drive the design and development of performance enhancing accessories for H-D’s future portfolio of P&A Screamin’ Eagle at the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) in Wauwatosa, WI.

Job Responsibilities

This is what you’ll do:

  • Design and develop performance enhancing Screamin’ Eagle Powertrain components including intake, exhaust, and power cylinder accessories
  • Work with an experienced cross-functional engineering team and have design and delivery ownership for powertrain content that meet the cost, quality and technical requirements
  • Develop powertrain system & component requirements through cross-functional engineering collaboration, product benchmarking and input from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create CAD models, large virtual assemblies and detailed drawings for engine components/systems utilizing techniques within Creo Parametric software.
  • Explore technical solutions and present design recommendations to achieve requirements. 
  • Work to resolve technical issues by applying problem solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional engineering & test support as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance to support personnel (designers, technicians, mechanics, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers, etc.)
  • Lead technical development and integration with domestic and international suppliers
  • Own detailed project plans for requirement setting, part development and procurement, test planning and testing utilizing FMEA and DVP&R tools

Education Specifications

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree. Advanced degree appreciated.

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:

  • Knowledge of powertrain mechanical system design and integration
    • Intake, Exhaust, Cylinders, Cylinder Heads, Thrttle bodies, Camshafts
  • Experience in successful delivery of powertrain components or systems
  • Mechanical aptitude & hands on design experience
  • Development of engineering requirements
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others, in an active team environment
  • Open communication and active listening
  • Knowledge of design for quality principals
  • Knowledge of engineering test & diagnostics
  • Experience with project management tools and principles
  • Experience with creating DFMEA’s and DVP&R’s
  • CAD skills using Creo Parametric software.
