The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a  Designer - Engineering.

Job Summary

The Designer executes designs of new and existing products using Pro-Engineer 3D solids modeling software. This position supports the platform or systems areas by designing and developing systems requirements and supporting the motorcycle product strategy. This position coordinates and executes tasks necessary to create and maintain bills of material (BOM), virtual motorcycles and large assemblies, model/unit assembly drawings, and engineering configuration vehicles (mock-ups). This position collaborates with other team members and makes suggestions to achieve engineering team goals. The incumbent may also lead various product development projects and guide the work of computer-aided design (CAD) modelers, contractors, and others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop and deliver cosmetic plastic components/systems to production.
  • Create CAD models, large virtual assemblies and detailed drawings for motorcycle components/systems while utilizing advanced surfacing techniques within Creo. 
  • Create engineering change notices utilizing Product Life Cycle Management (PLM).
  • Leverage analytical methods and test data to help optimize systems and components for cost, weight and quality improvements.
  • Demonstrate in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in delivering optimal designs while adhering to project targets, performance objectives, high quality, and cost minimization.
  • Create written/graphical documentation that supports engineering guidelines, engineering drawings, assembly documentation, and tolerance studies.
  • Mentor other designers, mechanics, and outside suppliers assigned to department projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Education Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Design or related technical field Preferred.

Experience Requirements


  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Creo CAD Software utilizing advance modeling techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Examples of delivering designs of high quality, minimal cost that meet timing objectives; as well as taking manufacturing and assembly processes into consideration.
  • Ability to apply sound design practices to engineering drawings utilizing GD&T.
  • Demonstrated ability to make professional presentations to a both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Documentation skills that demonstrate clear, concise, and understandable project material
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
