Harley-Davidson is on a mission to the lead the electrification of the Motorcycle Industry while staying true to our heritage of V-Twin powertrains in new and exciting ways. We are looking for Design Engineers to help drive the design and development of chassis systems for H-D’s future portfolio of vehicles at the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) in Wauwatosa, WI.

 

In this position you will:

  • Design, integrate, and deliver component/system designs from concept to production for one of the following areas:
    • Tires, Wheels, Steering and Suspension
    • Chassis Structures and Rider Interface – including frame, swingarm, sidestand, rider/vehicle supports, foot controls, handlebars, and seats
    • Bodywork – emphasis on high cosmetic plastics
  • Create CAD models, large virtual assemblies and detailed drawings for motorcycle components/systems utilizing techniques within Creo Parametric software.
  • Own detailed project plans for requirement setting, part development and procurement, test planning and testing utilizing FMEA and DVP&R tools.
  • Leverage analytical methods and test data to help optimize systems and components for cost, weight and quality improvements.
  • Feed project and part knowledge into guidelines and specification development for overall depth of knowledge in related parts and processes.
  • Lead technical development and integration with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Work with cross-functional groups up, down, and across the organization to obtain results.

 

Education:

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering degree. Advanced degree appreciated.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Previous design experience in related systems/components desired.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental physics and demonstrated usage of a variety of tools to improve designs (i.e. 3D CAD, engineering calculations, bolted joint analysis, FEA, GD&T, tolerance stackup analysis).
  • Experience with risk mitigation APQP processes, including DFMEA, DVP&R, PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Comfort in managing functional trade-offs between components and improving designs through clear understanding of operating envelopes, load paths, manufacturing processes, assembly processes, material properties, bolted joint analysis, datum schemes, and tolerancing.
  • Success in solving challenging technical problems with innovative solutions in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization. 
  • Success in directly or indirectly leading a team to meet aggressive quality, cost, timing, and performance objectives.
  • Experience with project management tools and principles.
