The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a  Sr. Electrical Design Engineer, Value Engineering.

Job Summary

Join our team as an Electrical or Senior Electrical Design Engineer and help support the Value Engineering team within Current Product Engineering at Harley-Davidson Motor Company.  This role is instrumental in leading the delivery of projects that follow principles of Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA/VE, and works with other high-performing teams and an array of internal and external stakeholders to deliver VA/VE project that meet program time, quality, and cost targets.  In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team working with supply management team members and other engineers focused on delivering cost reduction designs across the entire vehicle portfolio.  The senior design engineer will use engineering tools such as CAD models and drawings, as well as predictive analysis and conventional engineering tools and calculations, to demonstrate and communicate robustness of designs. The engineer will develop and track work through detailed project plans, lead presentation of design options through a formalized design review process, perform DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, analyze test results and bring closure to test findings, and deliver new designs and product changes to production.
This position will be hybrid with time split between a home office and on-site at a Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development facility

Job Responsibilities

  • Resolves complex problems by facilitating engineering activities and applying problem-solving processes
  • Design, lead, and deliver self-contained cost reduction designs from concept to production
  • Develop and track detailed project plans, lead design reviews, perform DFMEAs, DVP&Rs and analyze risks
  • Ensure silent Model Year Launch and Running Change activities
  • Collaborate up, down and across the organization to obtain results by communicating openly and actively listening
  • Perform Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&Rs), analyze test results and bring closure to test findings.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities within current product engineering

Education Specifications

  • Position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical discipline

Experience Requirements




  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a technical field, with prior technical problem-solving experience.
  • A strong technical background is required; including an understanding of key tools and processes leveraged in analysis, design, test and manufacturing
  • Strong interest in motorcycle engineering and design



  • Strong understanding of whole vehicle electrical and electromechanical systems with detailed system/component design and integration experience
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, stamping, and injection molding
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developing robust designs using DFMEA principles and tools
  • Extensive knowledge of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing best practices, with a broad understanding standard manufacturing processes including casting, forging, stamping, and injection molding
  • Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and datum structure development
  • Strong understanding of Bills of Material, Engineering Change Notices, Product Data Management tools
  • Demonstrated success leading system/component design projects that meet their quality, cost, timing, and performance objectives
  • Understands project management tools and principles (requirements, scheduling, risk mitigation, budget, and metrics)
