Our Powertrain Operations facility, located on Pilgrim Road in Menomonee Falls, WI, is where the “jewel” of the motorcycle comes to life. Pilgrim Road employees produce engines and transmissions for the final assembly plant in York, Pennsylvania, as well as transmissions, and replacement parts for sale through Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories business. Job Summary

Enhance component manufacturing by assuring that parts or assemblies are processed and tooled to meet optimum quality, quantity and cost requirements. Provide technical support to analyze and develop manufacturing control systems. Interface with Work Group Advisors/Process Leader, Work Groups, Quality and Product Engineering, and Manufacturing Support Services. Develop cost reduction programs through manufacturing efficiency improvements, schedule attainment, and first run capacity.
 

Job Responsibilities (Associate)
  • Participate with product engineering to design parts for manufacturability.
  • Provide productivity improvements to reduce total manufacturing cycle time by identifying and eliminating waste in the manufacturing process.
  • Provide safe, ergonomically healthy work cells and processes which comply with government and company regulations.
  • Provide capacity while maintaining flexibility and predictability in the manufacturing process.
  • Support Sr. Manufacturing Engineers, Product Engineers, Supervisors, and Operators in the development of tools, fixtures, and machines to support existing and new product and process designs.
  • Develop and successfully execute project plans to meet established deadlines.
  • Serve as a technical resource in machining and assembly processes, including CNC programming, CMM and gaging procedures, fixture/tool design and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Provide robust processes, tools and gages to reduce variation in the manufacturing process.

Experience Requirements

 

Required

  • Typically requires no previous professional experience.

 

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a co-op program or intern assignment focused on manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming, SPC, and Computer Aided Design.
  • Familiarity with detail process planning, including specifying speeds, feeds, tooling, fixturing and gaging.
  • Practical application of ergonomics.
  • Knowledge of machining operations and equipment with lean/cellular concepts.
  • Familiarity with equipment justification and procurement, costing methods and value analysis.
  • Familiarity with process control, quality assurance, SPC, process and capability planning.
Job Responsibilities (Intermediate)
  • Provide instruction, guidance and training in the development of new processes and in the resolution of manufacturing problems.
  • Participate with product engineering to design parts for manufacturability.
  • Provide productivity improvements to reduce total manufacturing cycle time.
  • Reduce overall costs through tooling and process improvements.
  • Provide robust processes, tools and gages to reduce variation in the manufacturing process.
  • Provide processes that meet Harley-Davidson's standards in quality, ergonomics and safety along with sustaining required production rates.
  • Support the development and implementation of systems and processes to ensure continuous improvement, world-class-level quality, and a high-performance work environment.
  • Interface with supervisors, process leads, product engineers and operators in the development of tools, fixtures, and machines to support existing and new product and process design.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practical application of lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Detail process planning including work balancing, work standard development, operator and equipment utilization, ergonomics, PFMEA, quality controls, tooling, fixturing, and gaging.
  • Knowledge of process control and quality assurance, SPC, and process capability, documentation/information using CAD, Network/software and PC applications.
Job Responsibilities (Senior)
  • Lead complex Project Appropriation Requests (PAR’s) and ensure the PAR process deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provide productivity improvements to reduce total manufacturing cycle time by identifying and eliminating waste in the manufacturing process.
  • Coordinates, communicates, and implements Process Change Notices and Engineer Change Notices.
  • Lead and support work group advisors, engineers, maintenance and operators in the development of tools, fixtures and machines to support existing and new product and process design.
  • Performs industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering and tool design activities.
  • Collaborates with new Product Engineers to develop new product processes and equipment.
  • Maintain and improve process documentation, routings, job aids and standards and obtain and prepare necessary training documentation.
  • Prepare project plans, cell layouts, monitors progress and expedites plans to meet established deadlines.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Knowledge and prior implementation of cellular manufacturing, J.I.T. and S.P.C.
  • Experience in a variety of fabrication, machining, finishing and assembly processes including inspection, equipment selection, tooling selection, and new product/design introduction.
  • Experience in detail process planning and continuous improvement, including specifying process parameters, process equipment, tooling, fixturing, and gauging.
  • Knowledge in CAD, network/software and PC applications.
  • Practical application of ergonomics and safety process controls.
  • Knowledge in machining operations and equipment, familiarity with cellular and JIT concepts, equipment justification and procurement, costing methods and value analysis. 
  • Knowledge in capacity planning, including productivity measurements, manpower planning and material flow.
