Job Summary

 

This position is a Systems Engineering position with responsibility for overseeing, coordinating, and conducting Human Factors Engineering work across Harley-Davidson Motor Company.  The ideal candidate is passionate about the vehicle AND the customer, seeking out solutions to provide and continuously improve the Harley-Davidson motorcycle experience for our customers and dealers.  This position resides within OE Engineering and will focus on the development of highly desirable new systems and vehicles.  The individual in this position will also be involved with projects from other parts of the organization such as Current Product, Parts & Accessories, Digital Growth and others.   
 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform Human Factors Engineering within the Systems Groups and partner with others in the organization to oversee and prioritize HFE work.
  • Support the creation, delivery, and measurement of vehicle / system HCI and ergonomic requirements.
  • Leverage statistical methods, HFE information, and study results to provide recommendations for design optimization to project teams to enable meeting HFE requirements.
  • Plan and execute usability testing for vehicle programs, including driver distraction testing, iconography studies, app testing and more.
  • Research and create design concepts and interaction maps for vehicle systems such as displays.
  • Involvement with UX/UI design activities across project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct ergonomic testing at the vehicle and system level to enable design selection and maturation.
  • Support project teams and other stakeholders with research and information to aid in the fulfillment of vehicle / system HCI and ergonomic requirements, as well as human performance.
  • Own the maintenance and evolution of HFE standards, test methods, guidelines, processes, equipment and HFE Lab.
  • Ownership or oversite of Program Management requirements – developing HFE requirements, timelines, test planning, etc.
  • Arrange and conduct vehicle level studies including hands-on operation and movement of parts and vehicles.

  • This position requires an undergraduate degree in a technical field related to human factors.

Experience Requirements

 

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant human factors experience in a technical field.  In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

  • Motorcycle rider or desire to learn is required.
  • Understanding of usability testing of products, such as displays and phone apps using iconography studies, card sorts, tree jacks, etc.
  • Understanding of ergonomic testing and providing robust, data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience developing and advancing test methods and processes.
  • Ability to problem solve and get involved in the creation of test componentry to complete ergonomic and HCI studies.
  • Knowledge and use of statistical methods to review data and provide guidance on design direction.
  • Understanding of UX/UI design principles and use of Adobe XD, Figma or related software to create testable prototypes.
  • Comfortable in advocating for HFE-driven insights in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization and providing data/rationale for recommendations. 
  • Continuous learner willing to research and seek out information for team’s requests and self-development.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
