Job Summary
The Communications Lead will manage strategic communication to drive and sustain the achievement of Harley-Davidson’s purpose and business objectives through improved communication management. This position is located at our Product Development Center and supports the Product Development leadership team.

As a member of the Organization & Leadership Communication team, the role works jointly with multiple site/functional leadership teams to implement Harley-Davidson’s standardized internal communication system – proactively identifying and addressing key communication-related gaps and barriers to business performance, providing coaching and counseling to leadership teams to improve communication competency and effectiveness, and developing and implementing large-scale communication strategies and plans to build employee awareness, understanding and engagement that will drive improved business results. Candidate must have the ability to lead through influence within all levels of the organization.

You will ensure that all communication reflects best practices and that best practices are incorporated back in to the communication system for the benefit of the company. You will also play a significant role in supporting effective leadership communications for the company by driving improvement of identified competencies through appropriate, high quality training offerings.

This role owns the assessment of the overall “health” of the communication system’s performance to ensure continuous improvement and evaluates channel effectiveness and proactively looks for opportunities to improve channel performance and identify new methods.

Education Required
A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism or related field is required. Master’s degree a plus.

Experience Required
Requires a minimum of 8 years of communication experience including:

• Exceptional written (business and journalistic style) and verbal communication skills, along with strong project management and interpersonal skills

• Experience in building cross-functional alliances, change management, communication measurement, consulting with business leaders and communication process improvement

• A strong working knowledge of face to face, broadcast, print and electronic communication needs and practices

• The ability to work well with a variety of people at every level of the company, and experience providing communication counsel and coaching for senior leaders is preferred

• The ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively; budget and agency management experience preferred

*Experience in union environments a plus. Some travel required.
